IK Multimedia (Updated)

Music accessory maker IK Multimedia was showing off the iRing, a new iOS motion controller for making music and gaming, along with a colourful redesign of its iRig Mic analog microphone and some cool but as-yet-unannounced new products.

IK Multimedia has revamped and expanded its microphone lineup while also developing new MIDI controller accessories for iOS users.

While iRing ($25) is primarily geared toward musicians and DJs, the device can also be used as a gaming accessory, and the company will be providing an SDK for iOS developers to incorporate it into third-party apps.

iRing comes in a pair of two controllers that are worn between the fingers and used in tandem in front an iOS camera to detect motion across three axes. A companion app, iRing Music Maker, provides translation of motion commands into standard MIDI sequences that can be passed on to any iOS Core MIDI app, making iRing a fun and versatile accessory for creative performance and DJ applications. The company also plans to release a Pong game as a proof of concept for how iRing can be used in gaming applications.

iRig Voice ($40) is a redesign of the product formerly known as iRig Mic, adding omnidirectional support and five colour options that are certain to appeal to iPhone 5c users. It retains the same analog connection as the prior version, including the pass-through headphone port.

IK Multimedia (Updated)
A special edition “voice-enhancing” Flo Rida version of the iRig Mic will integrate with a companion iOS app to allow fans to sing like their favourite rap star.
