Q: I’ve had my iPod touch for about 3 years and when I try to get an application iTunes always says that I need 3.0 to get it. Do I have to get a new iPod or is there something I can download to fix this?

A: Apple released a new version of the operating system for the iPhone and iPod touch last summer, and while all new models come with version 3.0, users of older models can also update their devices to the latest OS.
The update is free for iPhone users, however iPod touch users must pay $5. You can find the iPod touch 3.1 update here.
You purchase and download it directly through iTunes onto your device similar to any other software or application update.
Note that Apple plans to release version 4.0 of the iPhone OS this summer, however it will not be available for 2007 model iPhone and iPod touch devices.
