Q: I have a lot of duplicate songs in my iTunes library, but I am hesitant to delete them because, for a variety of reasons, I don’t want them to disappear from the various playlists in which they appear. Is there a way to select a song in the library and have iTunes tell me in which playlists I’ve put that track? If there were, it would be easy for me to use the “find duplicates” feature to clean up my library. Thanks.

A: Sure. Select any single track anywhere in iTunes’ track list views.
Then, right-click on the file (on a Mac, hold Control while clicking). If the song you’re looking at is in at least one playlist, you’ll see a menu item called “Show in Playlist.” Here, you’ll see a list of each of the playlists—both smart and manual—that the song is present in.
