Blackwell 4: Deception, Cubes, IMDb, Microsoft Office, OneNote

Blackwell 4: Deception ($3) — The fourth chapter in Wadjet Eye Games’ Blackwell adventure series is here, putting you back in the shoes of true psychic Rosa Blackwell and her jazz-era ghost partner Joey Mallone, who must help restless spirits confused by charlatan street psychics to find peace while unraveling a complex mystery. The play style combines modern adventure game concepts with a retro 2D pixel-art graphic feel and classic point-and-click gameplay. Although it’s the fourth chapter, the storyline is self-contained so players can jump right in, or grab the first three chapters for the backstory. If you like classic adventure games, this one is definitely worth a look.

Cubes (free) — The developers of Inboxcube, which presented a unique attachment-centric way of viewing your email inbox, have now brought the same concept to a standalone app focused on unifying files from multiple cloud storage providers into a single view. Users can connect their email and Dropbox accounts and see all of their files presented in a single place, organized and arranged by type, person, interest, or service in a unique and engaging view. Information can further be subdivided into containers, called “Cubes,” to group related files from multiple sources, and Contact Cubes can be setup to automatically filter and group information shared with specific contacts. Real-time notifications also let you know when new content appears in one of your Cubes.

This is an elegant and creative solution for those who regularly find themselves juggling a lot of data from multiple sources.

Updates

IMDb (free) — 3D Touch support has been added for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus users, along with new Today Screen widgets for viewing celebrity birthdays and new trailers and flyover support in map views.

Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (free) — The iOS versions of Microsoft’s Office productivity apps add the ability to rename files directly from the Open or Recent tab, and Excel for iPad also gains the ability to add and edit comments for improved collaboration.

Microsoft OneNote (free) — The note-taking app has gotten some nice improvements with support for FiftyThree’s new stylus, Pencil by FiftyThree on the iPad, along with new shortcuts for working with external keyboards, and improvements to the Share Extension for working with Split View on the iPad.
