3 Great Holiday Decorations You Can Print at Home

3D printers have the possibility to change our world for the better, and we’re already seeing the positive effects they can have in the fields of business, engineering, healthcare and more. Its large scale and commercial uses are limited only by the power of our imaginations, but it’s just as useful for domestic use and the little things in life. Repositories such as Thingiverse have a vast array of designs waiting to be utilized, and they can come in especially useful as the holiday season approaches. Here are three great holiday decoration ideas from them that you can make at home with your 3D printer.

Snowflakes

By heading to the thingiverse page before heading to the stores, you can save yourself a lot of money on your holiday decorations. There are lots of things that we associate with the Christmas period, and you can find 3D print designs for just about all of them. One of the most common designs available is the snowflake, meaning that you can create three dimensional snowflakes to hang from your ceilings, on your Christmas tree, or even snowflakes that can be used as a soap mold – that’s not just a great addition to your home in December; it can also make a great stocking filler for your friends and family as well. In real life, no two snowflakes are exactly the same, but one of the great benefits of 3D printing is that you can guarantee the same results time after time.

Snowman

We’re sticking with the snow theme for the second holiday season decoration you can print at home, but this time we’re looking at the 3D snowperson patterns available at Thingiverse. Once again, you’ll find plenty of snowmen decorations for your tree, but you can also print snowman tealight holders and even a snowman gift box. The snowman unscrews in the middle, making it a perfect receptacle for all your holiday candy. Perhaps the most famous snowman of all is Frosty, star of the song first recorded by Gene Autry in 1950.

Christmas Village

3D printing has come a long way in a short space of time, and its potential becomes greater with every year. That means that you can’t only print small objects such as a bauble, but more complex and beautiful objects too. One of the most stunning holiday designs available on Thingiverse is a Christmas village, featuring nineteenth century housing amidst a suitably wintry setting. It encapsulates the most traditional elements of the holiday season, and yet you can bring it to life for your own home using the modern technology. Did you know that you can visit a real life Christmas village without having to leave the United States? The village of Christmas Valley is found in Oregon, or why not travel to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania or Santa Claus, Indiana?

Snowflakes, snow people, and Christmas village decorations are just three of the festive holiday ideas to be found on Thingiverse. A 3D printer is for life, not just for Christmas, but it can liven up this most special of celebrations in ways that are sure to impress all your family and friends.
